Q:
What is CF Youth? A: CF Youth
provides events run by young people for young people. It is the youth
association of the Congregational Federation. Congregationalists are a
main-stream Christian church grouping, the first churches being formed as
long ago as the 16 th century. |

Q: What about safety and insurance? A: The Federation’s child protection
and other safety policies apply to CF Youth. A risk assessment is undertaken
for each event. An enhanced criminal records certificate is obtained for
leaders. Events are covered by the Federation’s insurance for public
liability and leader indemnity. Personal accident and property cover are
parents’ responsibility. |

Q:Who is in charge? A: The Federation’s Director of Youth
and Children’s Work attends any CF Youth event involving under
18’s. He has overall responsibility for the young people’s safety
and welfare. At an event, he works with another support adult and with CF
Youth’s Manager to ensure that all is well with those attending. |

Q: What happens at an event? A: Events vary slightly but all will
include some fun activities; some sessions of Christian teaching or
discussion; and some worship. Young people are encouraged to form their own
views and to find connections between issues of faith and their daily
experience. Sessions are usually lively and interactive rather than sit-down
talks. CF Youth seeks to build up young people’s confidence and self
esteem through personal encouragement and a friendly, enabling atmosphere. |

Q: Are young
people pressured to convert to Christianity? A: These events aims to strengthen and
equip young people who have been brought up in a church environment or are
interested in Christianity. There may be opportunity during an event for them
to strengthen their commitment privately, but we not put pressure on them to
do so. Congregationalists have a very high view of individual rights of
conscience and particularly freedom of belief – and this is reflected
in the content of CF Youth events. |

Q: What about
accommodation? A: Events are usually held at a local
church. The young people will need a sleeping bag and (if they wish) a
sleeping mat. There is an opportunity to get a shower at least during almost
all weekend events and always at the longer Easter event. Some events are
held at residential centres with beds. A kit list is provided for each event,
so you will know exactly what is required. |
